Walk Around Nanjhuang /

The next morning after arriving, I spent some time walking around Nanjhuang.  First, here's the view from the third floor of the place I was staying.  The sun was just coming up over the mountains.

And out back I met this cat!

The back view from the hostel overlooks this river that runs through town.

The river is still used in daily life it seems.

There was this huge, ridiculous pedestrian bridge over the river.

The whole thing shook and swayed when you walked on it.  Pretty fun.

The bridge also provided nice views of the town, the river, and the surrounding mountains.  Nanjhuang really is quite beautiful.

And here's the main street area.

One of the town's architectural draws is this former post office.  It's a wooden building, so that alone makes it stand out quite a bit.

There were some cats out back.

The wall outside this house was decorated with this neat pattern.  Since concrete was used a lot in home construction a couple of decades back, a lot of older houses have these kinds of patterns etched into the concrete in their walls.

A bunch of retro movie signs, though the movies featured are not actually old.

Another shot of the river

Nearby where I stayed was this old well, built into the open area in front of this house.

More Miaoli to come next time!
