Deep Musings on Doritos / ドリトーズの話しましょう / 看翻譯想正錯

我不常買多力多滋。美國的零吃大概像屎一樣。也對身體的影響不好。但是有時候我忽然想吃了。之前我看到這種，因為寫「美國」所以買到了。在外國時我喜歡買「美國」的東西看看外國人對美國有什麼印象。這次尤其有去的是，雖然英文寫「美國」但國語寫「紐約」。為什麼不一樣？其實在美國最有名的雞翅方式應該是水牛城的。有可能翻譯的人研究很深，決定「紐約」比「美國」更正對。好厲害！

Let me start with this statement:  I think Doritos are pretty much poison and gross, and I rarely ever eat them.

And yet, I can't say I never eat them.  I bought these the other day for the name as much as anything.  I like to buy things that say "American" on them when I'm in another country.  I'm always curious what people's images of America are.  In particular I was curious about these because, while they say "American" in English, the Chinese translation below refers to them as "New York Hot Chicken Wings".  So America = New York?  I think a lot of Americans would disagree with that.  And a lot of New Yorkers too.

私は普段ドリトーズをあまり食べない。アメリカのクソみたいなジャンクフードをあまり食べない方がいい。でもたまには食べたくなる。

この袋の名前は気になって買ってしまった。英語は「アメリカ」となっているのに、中国語は「ニューヨーク」（紐約）と書いている。なんでこういう風に変わったのだろう？やっぱり外国人はアメリカ＝ニューヨークと勘違いしているのだろうか？一番大きな町だけど、多くのアメリカ人はニューヨークと一緒にされたくないと思う。私もニューヨーク人として、あまり共和党のトランプ候補者を応援していて、銃を所有する権利を訴えるアメリカ人達と一緒にされたくない。
